Accelerating document collaboration in the Legal industry with Workshare

The Challenge

Workshare (acquired by Litera) was a provider of Software-as-a-Service document collaboration solutions. They identified a recurring pain point among legal professionals: inefficient collaboration when reviewing Microsoft PowerPoint presentations. Teams frequently struggled with multiple versions being emailed around, confusion over the latest version, and the risk of missing updates. These led to wasted time and potential errors in high-stakes legal work.

Kousaten’s challenge was to validate the market need for a solution and develop a minimum viable product (MVP) to address it.

Our Approach

1. Idea Validation

  • Crafted clear product messaging, focusing on core benefits for legal teams;

  • Engaged directly with Workshare’s client base to test and refine the value proposition;

  • Launched a targeted landing page with a signup call-to-action and event capture to gauge market interest;

  • Produced a marketing video (see above) to communicate the product concept and drive sign-ups.

2. MVP Development

Designed, developed and released a functional Microsoft Office plugin enabling:

  • Sign up and sign in;

  • Cloud-based version control;

  • Automated version comparison;

  • Highlighting of differences between versions to aid comparison and review.

Outcomes

  • Validated commercial demans by securing signed Letters of Intent from several customers;

  • Delivered a working MVP, enabling Workshare to integrate the product into its broader suite of legal software solutions;

  • Positioned Workshare as an innovative company capable of quickly address customer problems within their domain.
